The computer industry is more prone than most to the cult of youth, sacrificing experience for the illusion of adaptability and imagined enthusiasm. Contractors have been spared the worst excesses because we are perceived as adaptable, but ageism is something we must challenge, since it will face all of us eventually. What we need is legislation to ban the use of age limits in advertisements. This approach has been successful in changing the social climate that once allowed overt discrimination on the grounds of racial background, etc. |
