| | Our profession is maturing. Contracting has become an established way of working for many people and is widely accepted amongst most organisations as a staffing mechanism. What is missing is a method of accrediting contractors, so that the good are differentiated from the mundane (or even incompetent). How often have you been frustrated at being identified with a rogue contractor, who may have left the client site years ago? Wouldn't you like to be able to show a validated career log, which demonstrates that you are capable of doing exactly what you claim? The British Computer Society has an excellent mechanism for employers to help their staff develop their careers, placing them within an Industry Structure Model and keeping a personal log book up to date. We feel that a similar scheme will benefit contractors, agencies, and clients alike, and are currently developing one. |
